Harmons Cooking School

Chef Laura Fletcher

Laura Fletcher’s path into cooking started early—out of necessity as much as curiosity. After becoming vegetarian as a kid, she began cooking her own meals and quickly realized she could make food in a way that felt more intentional and enjoyable. Around the same time, she found a creative outlet in baking and decorating cakes, which gave her a sense of purpose and a way to express herself in the kitchen.

Laura originally planned to become an elementary school teacher, but while working her way through college in restaurants around Salt Lake City, she found herself drawn more and more to the kitchen. Over the past 15 years, she has worked in a wide range of food environments, including bakeries, brunch spots, local businesses, and larger operations. Along the way, she developed a well-rounded skill set and gained experience working with a variety of chefs and styles of cooking.

She joined Harmons in a Sales and Events role before transitioning to the Cooking School, where she found the right fit. As an instructor, Laura focuses on creating an engaging and comfortable environment where people can learn by doing. She enjoys teaching hands-on skills like knife work and flavor building, especially when it helps someone gain confidence and try something new.

Outside of work, Laura enjoys live music, local events, and spending time in the community. She also volunteers at the animal shelter each year on her birthday. Originally from England, she brings both perspective and personality to her classes—and she’s always happy to talk about it.
